Plan to Unplan

If it is one thing I have learned in my two years as a solo traveler, it’s this: plans rarely work. It’s nice to think you have your entire trip planned down to the minute, packed full of adventure and sightseeing. I can’t think of one instance where I actually followed my plan. There is always so much more to discover than I originally had anticipated, something will catch my eye and I’ll allow the adventure to take me down a new path.

While it may be nice to have a plan, are you really experiencing an adventure and expanding your horizons if you are following a plan on paper? Allow yourself to divert from the plan. Allow yourself to be called an explorer.

  1. Great plan! 🙂 I planned out my route in Japan but I kept it flexible to change them when I need. A plan is always good for peace of mind but I will take some time for spontaneity
